Bodie State Historic Park, California, United States
Bodie State Historic Park, California, United States
In the ghostly silence of Bodie in California, United States, it feels like time stands still. This once-booming gold rush town was established in 1860. Bodie was named after WS Bodey, a prospector who discovered gold but tragically died in a blizzard before seeing the town"s rise. When large deposits of gold were found there, it grew to nearly 10,000 residents, with saloons, dance halls and breweries lining its streets. But as the gold ran dry, so did the town"s fortunes. The mines closed, the population dwindled and by 1915, the place was abandoned. Bodie"s streets are now empty, its wooden buildings frozen in decay.Desktop Version

In today"s image, we"re transported to the George L. Smith State Park, which spans 661 hectares in Emanuel County in Georgia, United States. Kilchurn Castle, Scotland
Kilchurn Castle, Scotland
Today, we"re visiting Kilchurn Castle, one of Scotland"s historic landmarks, in the west of the country. Built in the mid-15th century by Sir Colin Campbell, the fortress sits on the northeastern shore of Loch Awe, the longest loch in Scotland, stretching approximately 25 kilometres. The Campbells of Glenorchy, a powerful clan, made Kilchurn their base for generations, adding to the original structure over time. From its strategic location, the castle controlled access to the Highlands, making it an essential stronghold in Scottish conflicts. In the 17th century, Kilchurn took a more defensive role, being converted into a barracks during the Jacobite uprisings. But as fate would have it, Kilchurn wasn"t destined to stay battle-ready forever. By the 1700s, it was abandoned and began its slow crumble into the ruin you see today. Even though it"s no longer a fortress for soldiers, its craggy remains still inspire awe and admiration.Desktop Version
Icebergs, Antarctica
Icebergs, Antarctica
The name "Antarctica" is derived from Ancient Greek word "antarktikos," meaning opposite the Arctic. The concept of an "Antarctic region" was first mentioned by Greek philosopher Aristotle around 350 BCE. Despite this early reference, it wasn"t until the 19th century that humans actually laid eyes on Antarctica. It is the coldest, driest and windiest of the Earth"s continents, with temperatures plunging as low as -80 degrees Celsius. Vast ice sheets and glaciers found here hold about 70% of the world"s fresh water. The waters are dotted with icebergs, as seen in today"s image, which drift across the Southern Ocean and gradually melt over time. Species like Emperor and Adélie penguins, along with seals, mites, roundworms and moss piglets, have made this icy habitat their permanent home.Desktop Version

Horse Head Rock, New South Wales, Australia
You can lead a horse to water, but you can"t make it drink—unless, of course, you"re talking about Horse Head Rock, perched off the Sapphire Coast near Bermagui in New South Wales, Australia. This ancient formation, pictured here, seems as if nature itself has sculpted a mythical creature forever poised to drink from the sea. Estimated to be 500 million years old, the rock"s uncanny resemblance to a horse bending its neck is the result of wind and wave erosion. As one of the region"s oldest and most iconic landmarks, it attracts hikers, photographers and nature lovers year-round. The best views are from the elevated track between Camel Rock and Murunna Point, while the more daring can scramble around from Camel Rock Surf Beach, though only safely at low tide.Desktop Version

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, United States
Spanning over 53,000 square kilometres, Wrangell–St. Elias, in Alaska, is the largest national park in the United States. It is a wilderness where caribou, Dall sheep and grizzly bears roam free and glaciers carve valleys that have existed for millennia. The park is a realm of extremes: its glaciers sprawling like frozen rivers, volcanic peaks piercing the sky. Among them stands Mount Blackburn, a 5,000-metre sentinel of ice and ancient fire. Its snow-mantled slopes feed vast glacier systems, a silent monument to geological time. Just beyond the park boundary, Willow Lake rests in the Copper River Basin—a roadside jewel along the Richardson Highway. On clear days, its glassy surface reflects the Wrangell Mountains in a panorama that feels endless: Blackburn"s white shoulders rising against cobalt skies, mirrored in still waters where swans drift like living brushstrokes.Desktop Version

Honey bee on lavender flowers
Honey bee on lavender flowers
Honey bees may be small, but without them, your grocery list would be a lot shorter. No more berries, avocados or even coffee. Alongside butterflies, bats and hummingbirds, bees pollinate nearly 90% of the world"s wild flowering plants and over 35% of the food crops we rely on. Unfortunately, bee populations are in danger. Pesticide exposure, habitat loss and climate change are driving their numbers down, threatening both global food security and biodiversity. The good news is that small actions can make a big difference. Support local beekeepers, plant pollinator-friendly flowers and avoid chemical pesticides. And the next time you stir honey into your tea, remember the tiny worker behind that golden spoonful and why protecting this buzzing species matters more than ever.Desktop Version

Towns like Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge grew up with it. Even the river"s name is a nod to the past—the passenger pigeon, once common in the area, vanished by the early 1900s.Desktop Version

Donkeys in a valley near Rhyolite, Nevada, United States
Donkeys—featured in today"s image—have a reputation for being stubborn, but that"s just a misunderstanding. They"re actually cautious thinkers. From ancient trade routes to modern farms, donkeys have been essential to transportation and agriculture. In many parts of the world, they"re still the backbone of rural economies, carrying supplies across difficult terrain where vehicles can"t go. Despite their vital role, donkeys face serious challenges. Many endure overwork, poor treatment and abandonment.Desktop Version
