The festivities lasted for five days, filled with exciting activities such as parades and horse races. The overwhelmingly positive response ensured that Oktoberfest became an annual event that can draw over six million people with each person drinking just over a litre of beer on average. Another drought-loving desert flora is the saguaro cactus, which can live for over 150 years and grow up to 12 metres tall. These cacti offer food and shelter to desert species.
