Known for their off-white wool, curled horns and distinctive white markings around their nose and eyes, they are used for lamb and mutton production, breeding the North of England Mule sheep and as pedigree breeding stock. Adapted to the harsh environments they inhabit, Swaledales are exceptionally hardy, with thick coats, strong bodies and a bold disposition. The ewes are excellent mothers, capable of raising lambs successfully even under challenging conditions.
