The station holds significant importance as one of the main junctions in the country and is among the four Belgian stations integrated into the high-speed rail network. This architectural masterpiece, designed by Louis Delacenserie, was built between 1895 and 1905, showcasing a blend of historic charm and contemporary functionality.
