Bengal tigers at Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, India

These are Bengal tigers, built for both stealth and power: an adult can stretch over 3 metres from nose to tail and weigh up to 230 kilograms, yet walk without making a sound. Their distinctive stripes also play a part in a landscape where visibility is a double-edged sword, helping them blend into tall grasses and dappled forests so prey struggle to spot them.
